19 September 2019 marks 100 years from the day, construction commenced on the Great Ocean Road. At Prickly Moses, we are joining the celebrations and have launched a limited-edition Great Ocean Road Australian Lager.
Brewed using Otway rainwater, this beer is a classic refreshing crisp Australian lager with a pleasant bitterness derived from hops grown in the high country of Victoria.
We wanted to create a typical Australian Lager that celebrated the story of the Great Ocean Road, as well as paying respect to those servicemen from WW1 who constructed it to join the towns many hundreds of thousands enjoy every year. The beer itself is drawn from English and German forefathers, which lagers in Australia resembled in the 1920’s. This one particularly has a pronounced bitterness and is full flavour.
This would’ve been the tipple of choice for many of the workers on the Great Ocean Road. A beer style that rose to popularity in the 20’s and 30’s in Australia. This early Australian lager was the forefather of the modern more industrialised lager.
We’re proud to be able to contribute to the celebration in a small way through this limited-edition beer and pay tribute to those workers who made many of our businesses possible along the Great Ocean Road. The product will be available at both the Great Ocean Road Brewhouse and Queenscliff Brewhouse and is also available for purchase by on and off-trade customers.
The Great Ocean Road Australian Lager is available in 330ml stubbies and 640ml Long Necks.
